Linux to Solaris development?

A very real need has popped up at my employer to develop a special
application to on Solaris, x86 and Sparc too. The need is not imediate but
will pop up very soon.

My question is very simple: Given that Solaris is one of the *nix family,
can a program be developed and run on Linux and resonably easily ported to
Solaris?

OK, so the question really is not that simple. The application must be able
to write SCSI protocol commands, both standard and vendor specific, directly
to a SCSI storage device. GUI not required, console is fine.

So, is it worth it to get going on a Linux development path or should we just
wait for the Solaris equipment to get going?

Alan

PS Beyond attempting an x86 install, I have no experience with Solaris.
