moin, moin,

just a final reminder that Richard Stallman is talking tonight ( Sun,
23Sep2001 ) at SCC at 18:00.

###
Richard Stallman, aka rms, will be speaking at 6 PM this coming Sunday, the
23rd of September, at Scottsdale Community College ( SCC ).

His talk will be "The Free Software Movement and the GNU/Linux Operating
System". RMS is the founder of the GNU Project ( http://www.gnu.org/ ),
launched in 1984. GNU produces software with licenses that protect the
consumers' rights.

RMS graduated from Harvard with a BA in physics in 1974. He worked as a
staff hacker in the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, but left MIT in 1984
to start the GNU project. He has recieved numerous awards and two honorary
doctorates.

Today, Linux-based variants of the GNU system, based on the Linux kernel
initially developed by Linus Torvalds, are in widespread use.

RMS was initially contacted by the IEEE Computer Society chapter at NAU to
speak in Flagstaff on September 27th at 7 PM. AZOTO, PLUG and ASULUG have
acquired some of his time for the Sunday talk as well.

See the AZOTO and PLUG websites for further information about Stallman's
Phoenix presentation and http://www.cse.nau.edu/~ieeecs/rms-visit.html for
more information about his presentation in Flagstaff.

AZOTO and the NAU IEEE Computer Society chapter are paying Richard's travel
expenses and are trying to raise a small stipend to pay him for his speaking
engagements. Donations can be made to:

AZOTO
C/O UnityWave
13231 N 35th Avenue
Suite 811
Phoenix, AZ 85029

Please note that while AZOTO has applied for 501(c)3 status, the paperwork
has not been completed. As such, donations might not be tax-deductable.

Please stop by the GNU/Linux Stammtisch Tuesday night at Bandersnatch in
Tempe if you'd like to help prepare for Richard's visit.

SCC is located at 9000 E. Chaparral Rd. in Scottsdale. That's just East of
the Chaparral exit off the 101. RMS will be speaking in the Turquoise Room
of the Student Center ( "SC" on the campus map ).
