Just picked up a "like-new" T470 for $150.
Plan to also add a T480 and do new installs

I went with KDE on Garuda (Gaming centric)
but Arch might be better for your needs.
I like the current state of KDE Plasma.
consider one that will let you keep updating from
old to new or a good stable rolling release.
