If it's really old, there might not be a good native one,
most people just recommended to load synaptic. More recently there
is Discover and muon.
If this is the laptop that you haven't used in 6ish years, it may be
running kubuntu 16.04 and that is no longer supported, so your
upgrades will fail.
I'd recommend backing up your home directory and then doing a fresh
install. If you haven't used Kubuntu since you put that laptop
aside, you're in for a real treat. It's a lot leaner, faster, and
just a joy to use compared to years ago. While KDE classically took
a lot of it's look and feel from windows you'll likely notice that
it's come back around and now Microsoft has been taking features
from KDE.

Hi,
I pulled out an old laptop and it already has Kubuntu on it. I
want to do a package update and during my research it appears I
need to do an apt update on the command line. Is there not a
desktop utility to do this? Not afraid of the command line just
want to learn how to run a desktop system.
Thanks!!
