Kate or gedit  are solid text editors for Linux, which are very like notepad++ which is a good text editor for windows
Notepad on windows really shouldn't  be used for anything anymore

None of the above is what I'd call simple. To me, nano is inscrutable. Vscode is
simpler to use than any of the above. I'd love to see a "notepad for Linux".
