The one advantage of an SSD vs a spinning USB Hard drive is that you can bump an SSD drive without worrying about the drive crashing, regardless of speed.
Drawback is you usually want to keep it at most about 70% full so it can do proper wear levelling

I think I was the one who said that, but it was in regard to USB2. I think USB3 is
fast enough to gain benefit from an SSD.
