Regarding Software dev people of which I am one of, I once had a teacher with a masters degree in CIS tell me that polymorphism was a Latin word. On another occasion, a different person who I worked with a masters degree in CIS told me OOP was only happening in the GUI side.

Best experience I had with a CS teacher was at SCC who used Sun OS for his programming lectures. Standard I/O , and standard error was discussed, but it went over my head coming from a Windows background. I now use Linux almost exclusively for the above.

I'll bet in educational places like India and Russia they know the value of Linux in the dev field.

Yes! Of course they should know Linux ... like I know Linux ... EVERYONE SHOULD ... LOL, but I'm biased and jaded.
