Python is making headways in everything today including and especially where Perl was and is.
Networking for example.  Cisco has web pages where they are using it for SDN dev.

Perl is legacy, but worth knowing if you ask me.  In fact, the older programmers are retiring and unfortunately
dying off before they can transfer those valuable skills to the younger generations and Perl like Cobol is still in
use.  I have even thought of getting a certification in it for opening doors into the Open Source dev side more.

Well, perl, like Java will always be useful. It might be in decline as in active number of GitHub projects, but like COBOL -- Perl will always be *somewhere* on a server.
