There is another use for the RaspberryPi that I have found. I use an SDR here (Software defined radio) and the Pi is perfect for running the control software for network connections to the device. The software (available on all platforms) is called AirSpy. The pi is perfect for projects like this. As a ham radio operator, I am b basically into any technology that can be controlled or utilized by open source software. Also, if you have some additional parts, the Pi can be used as a 3D printer controller. I also have a project in mind for converting live stream video into soundscapes (see the project seeing with sound for further info). This last project is not network specific except when the app for seeing with sound is running (it is browser based and requires a network connection).

Anyway, those are some other uses.

So I tend to do mostly enterprise-y security and networking stuff, and I run a Fortigate at my house as I tend to install them.  Because of odd circumstances, ie. a dumb government contractor both selling a second-hand firewall on ebay to me with configuration intact, and them continuing to pay for my subscription after they sold it on a secondary market (3yr now), I still get continuous URL filter feeds to it it, so who am I to complain?  I use it as such to block a lot of crap to my house with nothing more than their "advertising" category.

I enable globally ad blocking at the firewall level per their categorization as an enterprise product, and blocks an absolute crap ton.  Even my girl on her phone mostly says "it's kinda nice", but it breaks things for her as a more "basic" user.

Biggest thing it breaks for me is the amazon mobile app.  It's so tied to their their ads and spyware, their mobile app just crashes and shows me some poor dog as a result.  It's unusable.  Might be the same for pihole doing much the same but no idea.  F. Amazon though, I mostly order if I must from a pc that works fine, and still hate the fact I even have to order from them.  I'm sure this is probably more common, but I don't use my phone much for like actual phone calls, and reading books.

She complains the fakebook and twitter twits are somewhat broken, and reverts back to LTE at times, but I figure it's probably doing right by security vs. Zuck getting richer to feed disinformation, chinese/russian malware, and generally watch everything you do.  I consider blocking them both at times, but she might leave.

Something to note if you block these things properly at a network level properly.

Otherwise, past 20 or so years I just use noscript and ablockers, never been infected, with or without network level security, linux, windoze, or other.

I have a question about these websites that block browsers with an ad blocker.  How do they react if the computer I'm using uses Pi hole?

I decided to go with Pi-hole as I believe I can get the most benefit from that for my needs.

use it to control your 3D printer, if you don't have a 3D printer you should get one so you can control it.

I've been offered a Raspberry P 3B+ with a POE hat, but am having difficulty deciding if I really need it. Currently the uses I can see for it within my home network are:

1. Ubiquiti controller (replacing a cloud controller);
2. Pi hole;
3. Tor relay node;
4. Asterisk server.

Would appreciate some ideas for other possible uses.
