Agreed.  Years ago when Seagate acquired Maxtor, I swore then I'd never buy another Seagate drive.  Maxtor was crap, always the worst drives and prone to failure, now who knows where they're inserting them in their drive lines.  Interesting to hear they continue that tradition.

That said it'll work fine under linux, just probably expect it to die.

The only data loss I have had that was not User error has been the result of Seagate failure.
