I used to use a netgear nighthawk router years ago, loaded with dd-wrt/tomato, it was a nice router/firewall.  Features weren't great, but worked for my needs at around 80mbps on cox at the time.

I'm thinking since the Netgear mentioned is a cable modem AND a router, you can't put dd-wrt on it.  Cox doesn't like anyone tinkering with modems (and such docsis security).  Just check the DD-WRT/Tomato open-source router firmwares for compatibility with anything you're looking at, and then you're not at the mercy of Netgear and their security issues.  They have whole lists of supported devices, just find one new enough with cores/memory to suit your needs.  If you don't need the newest 802.11AX wireless, get one used cheap on ebay, or if things were open, shop a Goodwill as people throw away old routers all the time that are still quite useful once DD-WRT goes on them.

Thanks for the recommendations! I would be willing to trade, but not sure if I have anything worth of physically value after moving a while back besides some video cards.

I could do cash and offer my service sort of thing anything with software development or cars if you want to go that route. Just don't want to low ball you since I'm budgeting for a big expense coming up next month.

I actually just listed my Netgear Nighthawk (AC3200/C7800 Cable Modem/Switch combo on FB marketplace. I just upgraded to pfSense and Ubiquity. Minus being Netgear, which has burned you, its got everything else. I'm asking $280 on FB, but I'm willing to deal for PLUG and/or trade.

Let me know what you think. Ping me directly for more details.

So after going through 3 Netgear routers in one year. (One died, another got compromised, and the other just couldn't consistently stay online) and sticking with Linksys which seems to be doing the job okay, but can't handle the load at times.

Requirements from most important to least important.
- Multiband and handle large network traffic (3 TVs, ~4 Smart Phones, and 1 Linux Gaming/Work Desktop) and possibly light server for personal ususage.
- Advanced Parental/Access controls.
- Ability to set the power level of wifi range.

I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
