keep computer on by simply using the linux (ubuntu) timer on until rsync is finished.

   settings-->power-->power saving=="never"

this is a time set at 3 minutes  - change it to an hour or more until rsync is done.

of sleep soon enough. Most likely you'll have to restart the rsync as the
tcp connections will have timed out. rsync might also have controls to
