If I'm having this problem and you are, then others are also. I
read a few days ago that an update has been released. While I was
typing this, I checked my old phone. This feature worked on it.
Now it doesn't. I just had the bad luck to notice it soon after a
new release came out. I'll wait for developers to notice and fix
it.
I tried it on mine, both with my phone locked and unlocked, and I get "Can't mount filesystem" even though dolphin sees my phone in the list.
I often use Airdroid, I like it for interacting with my phone and pushing files over to it. I use SolidExplorer to also smb/sftp attach to my filers or other systems as well for pulling files to my phone, so never really missed this feature of connect...
Mostly I like the fact connect signals to my computer to pause music when I get calls and shows me phone notifications.

---------------------------------------------------The screen is not locked when I've tried this. KDE connect does allow me to send data to the computer. Until this is fixed, I'll just use sftp to send data to the desktop. If it's a lot of data, I'll shut off the phone and put its SD card in the computer.

Not locked like carrier lock, I mean locked like in sleep, without a pin. You just need to wake it up, pin unlock the phone, as that tends to lock storage. I've noticed other things (like airdroid) won't allow connection if it locks.

---------------------------------------------------Do you mean the partitions can't be accessed as long as the phone is locked to one carrier? Stephen, I checked remote filesystem browser in settings on the desktop, and it's enabled. On the phone kde connect has storage permissions and all other permissions I can give it. (contacts, phone, sms, and storage)

Make sure your phone is unlocked, android locks the partitions when the phone is, same as adb. Also, android is definitely weird about sd-card access, you typically have to unlock it specially to request permissions separately, I've run into this on numerous devices that access files there, and may limit connect.
I don't use kde or dolphin much to use this feature, but I know I *have* used it in the past, just don't remember details beyond above.

I would check in the connect settings and then the app permissions. This feels like Android security locking in place.

---------------------------------------------------I recently bought a Motorola Moto e5 cruise phone running android 8. Kde connect works on it except for the feature that's supposed to allow for accessing files on the phone from the desktop machine.
In Dolphin, I click on the phone and see the internal storage and the micro SD card i added. I also see folders that say Camera pictures (internal storage) and Camera pictures (SD card)
I try the camera pictures folder on the internal storage and I get: The file or folder /run/user/1000/aa7ea069101eb562/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera does not exist.
I try the camera pictures folder on the SD card and I get:
The file or folder /run/user/1000/aa7ea069101eb562/storage/30303030-2d30-3030-3000-40b6400040b6/DCIM/Camera does not exist.
Trying to open the internal storage folder: The file or folder /run/user/1000/aa7ea069101eb562/storage/emulated/0 does not exist.
Trying to open the SD card folder:
The file or folder /run/user/1000/aa7ea069101eb562/storage/30303030-2d30-3030-3000-40b6400040b6 does not exist.
This computer has Kubuntu 18.04 64 bit installed on it. Is this a problem with android 8? I know android gets to be more of a pain in the ass to use with each new version. It seems they're trying to make it so secure that people can't use it.
