Well, just make sure you're not
feeding some beast botnet with "easy sharing features". Just because they update it doesn't mean the fix anything. Might want to nmap it and see what sorts of port services it flaps out to the internet as well, wouldn't be the first time I've found things like these to have telnet open with root/123456 as a pass. It's also 2.4ghz only (why!? I'll pay another $5 for a better 5ghz wifi chips, really), so welcome to slowness on overly-congested/used channels mostly everywhere with it even 5 feet away.
This seems far more of a pain in the arse with diminishing returns than putting the usb stick into your laptop or android+otg whatever storage said gadget would present with various security, feature, or performance concerns. Just some thoughts - not disagreeing with you, I've been down this line of thinking, and seems devices haven't improved much from last time I looked a few years ago to just stick to more convention means.
