Is this an event where one can go to to learn about stuff like installing a driver and maybe discovering what one does not know?

ususally a mix of both. I know I attended one at a Sr living center that had a bunch of people from the area interested in swapping their degrading XP install for something that does the job with less fuss.

Interesting... is this 10 - 25 new Linux users or people that gather together to learn Linux?

Hi Andrew
We usually have most equipment and media on a server with PDF Books ISO we can install all major distro's. Most use debian based attendance is usually between 10 25 but Dec is usually
on the quiet side and more project based the installs. we work on servers raspberry pi projects router mods--any linux project is fair game and expect 50% new users and 50% experts so between everyone
we can handle a;most any project Todd

Hello everyone,

I'm completely new to meetups, and thought this would be the best way to say hello in this sort of community. I'm interested in going to the upcoming Installfest (not 100% sure if I can go or not), and had some questions on what usually goes down.

  • What distro does everyone usually work with? (I'm mostly comfortable with Debian distros and trying to get into FreeBSD)
  • What's the outcome usually like? How many people usually show up wanting to install Linux? How many come from Windows background?
  • Should I bring anything to a Installfest to help out any? I have a healthy amount of cables, DVDs (Debian 9 32bit, Linux Mint 18.3 32bit, FreeBSD 32bit), and some USB thumbs, and some networking gear.

Thanks, hope to meet any of you there!

Andrew
