That's a mystery. I'm sitting here with Void Linux on a 256GB SSD root
partition (and some mounts on spinning disks). I didn't have to do
anything out of the ordinary.

When you say "looks like the software is not compatible w/Linux Mint
17.3", what observable phenomina lead you to that conclusion?

The message displayed plus the phone call to Samsung SSD support....who told me that Linux was difficult to work with, etc.....I told him I did not appreciate his comments; I just wanted the solution - no help - we can't troubleshoot/repair/diagnose etc.....

Was not supportive at all!

I have now went to an older HD I still had that was a dual boot with Windows 7 prof on it - will try to do it from there.......

 What
messages and beeps (if any) do you see and hear? How far does it get
into the boot?
