I know that Mint is built on Ubuntu.  This post seems to suggest its been an ongoing problem:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/254724/firefox-constantly-crashes-no-log

They suggest: Make sure Firefox isn't running. Then rename ~/.mozilla to something else and see if Firefox still crashes.

I would suggest searching for the FF error logs.  This post tries to shine some light on their location:

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/179930/where-can-i-find-firefox-log-file

I would spin up a VM and see if you can duplicate the issue in a Vanilla version of your OS ... straight outta the box, does it happen?

Try to reign in the scope of the issue with VM troubleshooting.

Let me know if that helps at all! :D

On Linux Mint 17 Firefox 46 is crashing in numerous
situations, including even when I try to run in safe mode,
it just crashes. Everything else on my system is working
fine and the system is up to date.

I have tried reinstalling Firefox; even tried complete
uninstall and fresh install.  But the problem continues t
the same.

Cannot open either extensions or add-ons because Firefox
instantly crashes.

Tried opening a private window and then I could get to
extensions and add-ons, so I disabled them all, but
when I restart Firefox, it crashes again.

Help!
