hmmmm.... I just noticed this which makes me think it isn't the resolution. The wallpaper isn't larger than normal, just the icons. I googled the wrong thing before! I'll get back with you in a second!

This has happened before and a restart would fix the problem... but not this time. So I open the control panel and go to 'monitors' and it is set to 640x480. I think one of those numbers should be 1080 but when I click the arrows to select another resolution nothing appears, just the option to choose 640x480. Any one know how tofix such a problem? Maybe it has something to do with the dist-upgrade I did the last time I run the computer.
