user:passwd:UID:GID:?:?home directory and default shell (man 5 passwd)
What does
file /usr/bin/showtext
returns?
I wonder how it got there...

bandit25@melinda:~$ grep bandit26 /etc/passwd---------------------------------------------------
bandit26:x:11026:11026:bandit level 26:/home/bandit26:/usr/bin/showtext
if possible don't figure it out for me..... help me to figure it out.
For instance: I understand the grep command but why are we issuing it?
As for the output of that command:
bandit26:x:11026:11026:bandit level 26:/home/bandit26:/usr/bin/showtext
user:passwd:UID:GID:?:?
After I looked up the password file I was inspired to grep
/usr/bin/showtext but after entering it it just hung.

Oh try a sudo makedev -a if nothing else works, maybe your tty is hosed

I looked at the output with the verbose flags and think IO need to
include a tad more than just the last line:
debug1: Sending command: vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config
debug2: channel 0: request exec confirm 1
debug2: callback done
debug2: channel 0: open confirm rwindow 0 rmax 32768
debug2: channel 0: rcvd adjust 2097152
debug2: channel_input_status_confirm: type 99 id 0
debug2: exec request accepted on channel 0
and then it just hangs

oh! I forgot to mention that if I run
ssh -i ./bandit26.sshkey bandit26@localhost
it just logs me out after login. Sorry I didn't mention that before.

I'm trying to ssh into a computer. The shell it uses is not bash.
I've run:

bandit25@melinda:~$ ssh -i ./bandit26.sshkey bandit26@localhost

but they all seem to be waiting for input. Please.... what do I need
to read to figure this out?
