well.... I post a message to lfs-chat so let's see what they say.

cat /etc/issue;uname -a
Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca \n \l

What distro do you have (cat /etc/issue;uname -a) and which Vlc version?
It may no even be Vlc, Vlc relies on a bunch of libraries.
Installing those libraries from source looks to me like a great way to get your system hosed.
YMMV...

Well when I run home videos the video portion of the film can't keep up
with the audio. Likely the cpu is to blame but on another discussion board
one guys solution was to run 1.1.10 . I am just grasping at straws here!

Mike, BLFS will give you a laundry list of all you need to have installed
to get VLC compiled.
I certainly admire and encourage your ambition, but this may be a little
bit above your head (it is almost above mine).
Why do you want to compile VLC anyway?
What's wrong with your distro's package?

okay... it was late a late night when I wrote that last message but I am
up
now fresh (sorta).
WHen I run ./configure the last line it spits out is:
   configure: error: Couldn't find DBus >= 1.0.0, install libdbus-dev ?
Am I to assume that I need to compile libdbus-dev?
