I have seen burning software get weird with an explicit choice in burning medium. so if you make it think CD and not DVD it will see a DVD and say media not valid. I have seen this in Windows and Linux software.

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 660 running Mint 17 KDE.  I was trying to burn a DVD and cannot.  I get a popup shortly after I insert the DVD which allows me to open the burner software, however is says something to the effect that the medium is not valid.   I can burn CD's but not DVD's.  A search of Google turns up a bunch of folks having the same issue with their Win boxes.  Most of them said it was a driver issue.

I can play a DVD movie.

Any pointers much appreciated.
