I have edited multi-page PDFs before with scribus.

Ah, thanks, that worked.  That appears to convert the PDF over to a bitmap graphic.  I think I would put it between inkscape and openoffice as far as usefulness.  On the one hand it does render the PDF perfectly, on the other hard it's now a graphic so it can't be edited, and on a third hand of a mutant, it only works a page at a time.

It is useful if all you want to do is add to a document or fill out a few blanks, on a PDF not designed to be filled out, for printing.

Thanks for the tip,

Brian,

Scribus does not import pdfs. You have to open a blank document, and
then insert a graphics object. You import the pdf into the graphics
object. Stretch the graphics object to fit the area of the page you
want. Then, insert text objects into the graphics object and type away.
Save the document; export to pdf, ignore errors, and enjoy!

I knew scribus would export PDFs, and is quite good at it, but I
hadn't realized that it would also import them.
That being said, I just tried importing a number of PDFs and it did
a terrible job.  Basically the documents were unrecognizable.

Is this typical behavior for scribus, or am I doing something wrong?

I'd swear I asked this but it isn't in the archives. Hans said

        anything
new (better)has come about that allows us to input text onto a
