JSPWiki was "drop a war into deploy folder and start tomcat" easy to install.  Just my experience.

The very easiest is to use a wiki farm like Wikia.  Personally, having used phpWiki and Tikiwiki for years, I wouldn't waste my time installing anything but Mediawiki, though that TiddlyWiki sounds attractive, as long as it uses WikiCreole.

I give another vote for TiddlyWiki as a easy and powerful wiki. So cool that it is contained in a single file, data and logic. Easy to move around and just use on a local computer. Multiple people can use an instance of it by just putting it on a place all of them can access.

Also look at the Google Sites feature for Google Apps for Your Domain, if you have that. It is a simple wiki that you don't have to host because Google is hosting it.

http://www.wikispaces.com/ is also pretty good and has free options.

It really depends on what you are looking for, feature-wise. I know of one very simple wiki, TiddlyWiki, that is just a Javascript driven single html file wiki. All the pages and links you are creating are called Tiddlers and works like other Wikis, except it isn't meant for lots of users editing and maintaining it. But makes for a great way to create a journal or cross-linked log of stuff.

MediaWiki (which is used to drive Wikipedia) isn't hard to setup at all, but is extremely powerful and has tons of options for how to set stuff up. Or you could go with an already built wiki system, like Wikia, where you sign up for a subdomain and just use the software they install.

What is the simplest/easiest 'wiki' to set up?

Just did a google search for: simple wiki software and among the
millions of hits, these look potentially promising:

- http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?EasiestInstallableWikiContest
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software
-
http://www.clickonf5.org/7599/10-free-opensource-wiki-software-engine/
-
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7848899/really-simple-wiki-platform
- https://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki

But before I begin to plow through these first hits, I hope the plug
brain trust might point me in the right direction.  I do have have
web hosted space where I can install something and I just want 4 or
5 people to be able to access a simple "page" where each participant
can quickly and easily add to the content with simple text.

Suggestions?

Thanks.
