I just got my invite yesterday to https://joindiaspora.com/
Diaspora is an awesome, distributed, open source social network in the making from some young hackers at NYU
code on github...

moin moin,
Friendica works with other social network services, but is decentralized
and we can run our own nodes.
Is anybody using it? It requires accounts on other social networks in
order to interact with them from a Friendica instance?
I could allow connections from other social networks without requiring me
to have an account with those other networks? I think that's generally
possible via OAuth and similar anyway.
ciao,
