Could the problem be that I am running LinuxMint and not Ubuntu?

They have an Ubuntu install option that does not entail useing an RPM

repo add insturctioyns from the same page:

they then have instructions on how to add the repo which you cna then
use apt-get or my favorite aptitude to install.
