So then Removable Devices does not automaticly say USB? Even though there is specificly a CD Rom option? Hmmmmmm....
mobo is IDE.... I'm stuck in the 90s! I use peoples refuse computers. I got a free computer from one pugger and a free monitor from another. I'm what you call a 'sorry S.O.B. But I'm laughing about it all the time. Not really but I need to krrp my chin up somehow!

All in all, I would not get an external USB hard drive. The bus speed is important, doncha think?
USB is not fast!
Just go get a SATA drive? Order one online. But first be sure you have a SATA capable mobo?
JD is right, the USB2 card or sata dock would be required.
How about a SSD drive? They are quite a bit faster? (Internal)?(602) 791-8002 AndroidOn Sat, Nov 19, 2011 at 4:39 PM, JD Austin <jd@twingeckos.com> wrote:
Add a USB2 card and get either a sata dock (you'll want to put a fan on it)
or get a hotswap drive bay.On Sat, Nov 19, 2011 at 16:26, Michael Havens <bmike1@gmail.com> wrote:One more thing.... I don't think I have USB 2.0--On Sat, Nov 19, 2011 at 4:17 PM, Michael Havens <bmike1@gmail.com> wrote:
thanks, JD. Do you know the terms I need to enter into google to find what I'm looking for? What I want is an external housing for a single hard disk drive (maybe two) in which it is possible to swap out drives w/o unscrewing things. Maybe I would be better off getting a standard EHD?--

hmmmm.... I just went into office max (the best thing we have for a computer store in cottonwood) and the computer guy there said that you can't boot off of an External hard Drive. Well, another option I have (if that is true), is to copy the live CD onto the ED then to boot off of a flash drive and on the FD tell it the information is on the ED. I know this is possible because I had a linux friend doing something similar to this. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?--

I was thinking that instead of an internal hard drive I would get an external one. Then, I could always have my computer with me:!) I have a NetVista computer. Do any of you know if I will have a problem booting from an external hard drive? When I initialy boot and press F-12 it goes into boot media order and says that removable media is in the boot order so I suppose it's all good. What do you think?
