Thank for the pointers!  I'll probably have more questions soon.  Thanks!

Hi,

Our data center provides DNS for us.  We would like more control so I am moving to Zone Edit.

Be sure that if you need reverse DNS that varies from whoever provides your CIDR block, your upstream provides and allows that also.

I want to make sure I have the mail server configuration correct.  To get to the mail server control panel we use mail.domain.tld.

Dig gives me the IP of the mail server.

So in Zone Edit I created a record of type MX, set the sub-domain to "mail", TTL to 7200, Preference 10, and host to the IP Address of the mail server.

There are actually two records involved in setting up the mail server:

A record pointing hostname to IPADDRESS
MX record setting precedence for mail delivery for the domain that points to the hostname.

Be aware that the hostname must match in mail for the RFC to be valid.

nslookup

Should give you information that matches your new DNS.

You can also use these mailtools:

Is this correct?

Thank you for your help!
