I will second PostBooks by xTupple. We even have an accounting firm in the valey that is already familiar with it, but I can not recall the name - Hans would know. It is full multi user, windows, linux, etc.and you have full access to the back end data. It is more geared to a traditional sales / service operation then a pure service operation but I liked it. For what it is worth I do have a degree in accounting ;)
When I looked into it things like FreshBooks and MoneyDance did not even hit my radar. If they are free and open then I will certainly give them a look.
But give postbooks a look - they are a darn good system - at least as far as an accountant is concerned. And if you grow big enough they have full commercial support at well.

I think FreshBooks has potential!!

Intuit used to have an app called "quickbooks simple start" that was free. I downloaded it last year. There is a learning curve and it is a closed system.
I cannot find a download links. It was obscure last years as I recall.

Date: Wednesday, February 2, 2011, 2:01 PM-----Inline Attachment Follows-----Hello Hello!I am in need of some advice. I need some OSS accounting software that is compatible with what an accountant would use. Now, I don't have an accountant yet, so I don't know what that person will be using, but I will assume it will likely be quickbooks or peachtree. With that in mind, do any of you use such a program? Or make recomendations? I know about GnuCash, and I will likely have to learn double-entry accounting, or what ever it is called, which so far has not made any sense to me. I understand the concept, but as for getting it into GnuCash, it has not worked for me.I plan to look into MoneyDance, it is pretty and my wife likes it, but I am not real familiar with it either. Advice?Thank you!
