For what it's worth your Ubuntu install probably saw the one disk one master channel 2 as replacing the missing entry for master channel 0.  I've seen usb root hub's treat thumb drives the same. What Eric wrote about udev may react the way some usb root hubs behave.

Not sure and mostly guessing based on past experiences but maybe this gives you a direction to pursue your question further?
