THANKS for your help.

I WAS using Chrome, bit I opened a FireFox window,
and now (well, knowing to avoid mibbit)
everything seems to be OK !

Weird. @ is something I'd expect to see on a username to designate operator privileges. I've checked out the webchat.freenode.net and it's working OK as far as I can tell...

I've attached a screenshot of what my screen looks like before I hit "Connect" and it's connected me successfully using the webchat client.

What browser are you using?

OK,
so it sounds like the mibbit client is still too dumb,
to detect (and tell me) the fact that it is blocked...  Hmm...
I didn't have this problem
the previous time, I
tried to participate in one of these #ABLEconf sessions...

and, even that, does not explain why my session at webchat.freenode.net , is
not able to see anything, that anyone else is saying.

I did notice that it is displaying my CHANNEL ID as
#@ABLEconf

but I do not know where that "@" came from ...
(not from me!)
(at least, not intentionally!)

Thanks,

As far as I know, freenode has blocked the mibbit client, or at least that was the case in June.

MikeSchwartz should work fine as a nickname, I'd suggest trying to avoid underscores and other non-alphanumeric characters. And either "ableconf" or "#ableconf" should work for the webchat.freenode.net client.

some examples:

in my window (well, tab) using "http://www.mibbit.com/chat/" I sent this:

20:15 Mike_Schwartz Hello... is anyone there, on #ABLEconf ?
and
in my window (well, tab) using "http://webchat.freenode.net/" I sent this:
[20:11] <@Mike_Schwartz_00> Hello!  anyone there?
and
neither one of them, seemed to show up, in the other window (er, umm, tab) -- !

any comments / advice?
Thanks,

I "also" logged on the same channel, at
    http://webchat.freenode.net/
(since it is recommended),
with using a slightly different nic
("Mike_Schwartz_002", but the "2" got cut off...)

and stuff that I said in ONE window, is NOT showing up in the other!

NO WONDER it seems I cannot "hear" what anyone else is saying...
write-only memory!

any suggestions / advice appreciated...

#ableconf suggests this client as well, it's DHTML and I just checked it out... better use of screen space IMO

Could someone please tell me (or, remind me)
how to do this just using a web browser?

The computer I am sitting at, has (Afaik) no
proper "IRC" client -- but it does have firefox
and (what I am using now) Google "Chrome".

I think it worked last time, I have just forgotten
what the secret was.

Thanks,
