The OS that ships needs to be friendly enough to a web browsing, picture and video viewing person, so minimal (preferably no) support is necessary on my part.

I guess I don't understand the premise of the question.
I know that Acer Aspire One SSHD models all have 'linpus' which is a
derived version of Fedora installed which is customized for the netbook
experience. Obviously I want more features than the simplified version
of linpus.
If the version of Linux you are using doesn't make most of those things
relatively easy, I'd tell you to change your version of Linux.
