I reset it for 30 seconds then did the fimware upgrade thing but to no avail!

There should be a reset button on the back of the router. You may need a paper clip. Hold the reset button down for a 30 seconds. You should be able to login with 'admin' 'admin' and see what is happening. Note: all settings will be reset to factory settings.
