I'm not sure about xen. I am using VmWare for the study group only because I have been using it forever. How I think fro something like what you are talking about something like virtual box may work. I find that seeing my VM's in a separate window instead of seamlessly with my main system gives me some insurance that I am not partitioning my host OS's drive or something like that.

The idea is that we build images of specific configurations for using as
