I had to chime in on this one since I *used* to be an OS X user.
I know this is a Linux newsgroup (Mint
3.0 is fantastic, IMHO), but I
did ask about an iMac a few months ago. I think I'm ready to purchase
the iMac.
Fine, Apple makes great hardware.
I'm looking at the 20" iMac as it has a DVD writer built in. Is this a
good model? I'm basically using it for web surfing, e-mail and making
DVDs (home movies and the like).
Fine again, I would just recommend running Linux on it, not only because this is a Linux list, but also because of the vendor lockin that comes with OS X.
Apple is actually worse than Microsoft as far as OS updates are concerned. Try to find updates for OS 10.2.8. You can't. You have to spend $129 for tiger/panther/puma/lynx/calico captive, etc. If you are okay shelling this out every 1-2 years, that's fine. I opt not to.
We now run debian on me old G4.
