I must say I'm pretty impressed.

I'm using kinda of an old laptop: Thinkpad R32. It seams beryl was upgraded and it works much faster than it used too,at least for me. Everything in general seams to run faster and more smooth. I haven't run all my programs yet but I ran my most common and they all work fine with a few exceptions.

I have found some problems with my installation. First most noticeable is that gdesklets are gone. I know that's something they haven't really been working on for a while but there were a few that still worked and I often used. Not they are gone and I'm not quite sure why, I'll have to look into that. The next major negative change I noticed is that I had a program called webilder and that no longer works. It was a cool program too, made my desktop interesting, so now I have to figure out what happen there too. Finally, the other problem that I found is evolution. For some reason its having sync problems and I'm getting a set of few e-mails over and over again.

Other than that, everything seams to be running fine. I guess I would suggest you upgrade first and if not all goes well (or at least fixable) than just do a clean install.  Let me know how things go for you. Best of luck :)

I'm about 20 minutes from finishing an upgrade. I will let you know
how it goes. I think they change a lot of things with their video
drivers/settings and thats something i've never really had a good time
when upgrading. Might be a good idea to just reinstall. None the less,
I'm still upgrading and will see how it goes.
