I set up a printer today (test laptop).

I installed:

hplip
hplip-data
foomatic-filters-ppds

hpijs got installed as well, but I think it was a dependency on one of those.

I'm not sure if all is needed or not, but it seems to work.

I use Debian at home and need to grab a few other packages to get my HP
OfficeJet working. The other packages are hplip (and I think there is a
data package as well) and a few of the foomatic packages. I typically
search for hplip in Synaptic and get the ones that look like it. I
really should write it down one day.

After you install the hplip and foomatic, you will need to restart CUPS
to have it recognize the changes.

okay..... here is the problem, kaddprinterwizard on my system lists 4
printers: 4 differant laserjet printers. I tried to apt-get install a new
version but it responded that no package was available. How does one
update the printer list?

,I have a 832c not 932c and All I did was go to
printer
config from the 'start' menu...yeah, I know, no start.
And I just followed the gui setup. Works great in
pclinuxos. Yeah, diff os, but...

In config > kde > perheriphals > printers there
are two 932c's, one w/hjjwhatever and one straight.
Sooooo, linux does support it.

Probably in gnome config setup....not a gnome fan at
all.

I am using usb as a connection tho. Never did get
parallel port to work. Just fyi.

It works fine for what I do so far.

That is all I had to do. PDF's print funny, by using
the popup thingy and changing from saving the file to
print and telling it lpr in the command line at the
top of the box...at least in kDE version. ymmv.
