How about SuperTux (http://supertux.berlios.de/)?  Its more or less a Super Mario Brothers clone.  Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of development going on with it any more, but the first set of levels that they released were very good.

there's tuxkart and supertuxkart, but they're kind of buggy.

If you have Adept, search for a package called "childsplay." It is an education game suite for kids.

Subject: kids games for GNU/Linux?

moin moin,

What children's games are available for GNU/Linux and work for kids? I'm
thinking the younger than 10 age range[0].

I'd like to know if they're Free Software, of course :).

But, there's also the reality that kids are subject to marketing in the
.us. What branded and/or commercial games work somehow on GNU/Linux? Do
they need wine/cedega/crossover to work?

[0] Maybe specify an age range you think appropriate for the game. I'm
certain there's a developmental range difference between tuxpaint and
kanagram.

ciao,
