Hey Thanks,

Samba showed as trusted.  I turned the firewall off altogether.  Now I have access. I'll see how I can configure it to work.

Thanks again,
Keith

Check the firewall settings on the Linux box.
Likely Applications -> System Settings -> Security Level
If Samba isnt in the trusted services add 139:tcp, 445:tcp  to the Other Ports.
Make sure you set the samba server to only allow connections from your subnet/etc.

Hey Everyone,

I finally got Fedora Core 5 to install on my AMD 500 ... added some ram and it is faster.

Running it as a server mostly.  X running.

I used the Samba tool under Gnome to configure Samba.  System > Administration > Server Settings >Samba

added a share under me as the user, making it visible and read/write.

added a user - me not root.  used the win name on my xp laptop.

On the Xp I can right mouse click start, click explore, select my network places at the bottom of the list, click entire network, click microsoft windows network, click the workgroup, click the link to the Samba server.

I can see the share. Login form appears.  I enter the UN & PW I put into the Samba config.

I get a message the path is "not accessible" that I might not have permissions .... the network path was not found

Any help much appreciated,
Keith
