I've tried the various fixes that you all
suggested, but no luck. Thank you, all, anyway.
I think there is something deeper going on,
additionally, and I am not proficient enough (yet) in Linux to figure it
out.
I am leaving on vacation in a couple
of days, and will work on this when I return. Can't afford to devote any more
time to this computer issue right now, or I will never get out of
town!
If it is appropriate, I will try to attend
an Installfest when I get back, and bring this thing with me.
I really appreciate the input from those
that helped me on this, and hope to meet you someday.
Richard Allen

Windows
What is the output of 'sfdisk -l /dev/sda'
?
Try:
title Windows
rootnoverify(hd0,0)
chainloader
+1
makeactive
If /dev/sda1 is not the bootable partition you might
to
also need to add unhide() and hide() lines.
When you have the
linux system up 'info grub', the info pages
for grub explain the config
file pretty well, plus how to set
it up for different operating
systems.
