I bought a secondhand Thinkpad 385XD from Simply Laptops in Scottsdale in 2003, worked well enough, and they replaced a DOA battery with a minimum of hassle

 

The 385XD is not a model I'd reccomend; it's just a PII-266, it tops at 96Mb of expensive EDO, and while it WILL run Mozilla, it was decidedly happier with Opera 6.
