Yeah, “use it or lose it” is definitely the watch phrase of the day. Btw, from an accessibility standpoint, AI isn’t all that accessible, nor is it particularly inexpensive. Also, AI has a fair number of issues, including hallucinating “facts” and is already barred from being used in court documents and court procedures. Btw, I remember when critical thinking was encouraged in high school (mind you, this was the early 1980’s). Since then, I have seen education devolve to the lowest common denominator. Sad too see and that is one of the items that is contributing to loss of critical thinking skills. So, where does this leave those of us who still can exercise these skills? Well, there are many answers, only it’s rather difficult to determine which one is the most correct. -Eric From the Central Offices of the Technomage Guild, Strategic Mentality Dept. > On Feb 21, 2025, at 8:59 AM, Stephen Partington via PLUG-discuss wrote: > > The statement "Use it or lose it" has been around for as long as I can remember. > > On Wed, Feb 12, 2025 at 7:27 PM greg zegan via PLUG-discuss > wrote: > Study Finds That People Who Entrust Tasks to AI Are Losing Critical Thinking Skills > > Study Finds That People Who Entrust Tasks to AI Are Losing Critical Thin... > Trusting AI over the real thing seems, per a new study, to actually be atrophying folks' mental faculties. > > > ?? > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list: PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: > https://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss > > > -- > A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button. > > Stephen > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list: PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: > https://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
