> The insurance for the house has specifically excluded me from the policy for coverage, While *your* insurance has excluded you, the fire started due to your neighbor, and therefore *your neighbor's* insurance should cover anything that yours didn't. You should still be able to file a claim against their insurance. > Sue the guy and take his house. I second this; if you have a strong case you should be able to find a lawyer that's willing to work on a "no win no pay" basis, though they'll take a relatively large amount from the settlement; I employed a personal injury attorney once and the agreement was something like they took 22% if no actual lawsuit needed to be filed but if they ended up needing to file they would take 33%. You might think that's a large percentage, but 66% of something is better than 100% of nothing, and they're worth their weight in gold; all you generally have to do is send them everything you have and they turn that into money. You generally don't even need to talk to anyone else, you just direct them to your lawyer at that point. The only problem I'd imagine you might run into is first proving that you owned said equipment, and then trying to show how much it's worth. You're likely not going to get "full replacement cost" from the other person's insurance, you're going to get the current value of the equipment when it was destroyed, as if you were to have sold it on eBay for instance. I would still talk to a lawyer though. Find a couple and make an appointment; they usually have free consultations.
