I did the same actually at one point, bought a nice discone antenna from the UK and put in my window, more trying to hack my car with its legacy keyfob and crappily insecure radios from the mid/late 2000's. I didn't get too involved, as I'm a crappy code guy, but was kinda fun to experience coming from using spectrum analyzers to test wireless enterprise networks, so some minor background in RF. Sniffing RF, so much crap is floating around, you can get lost trying to chase things to hack. I use 2 PI's for my home yard sprinklers (opensprinkler) systems mostly, and one for my 3d printer. They turn on/off my 24v sprinkler heads using an opensprinkler board. Since replacing crappy SD's with a decent samsung unit shortly after that failed, been alive years now with pi2b's. Same for my 3d printer, it runs a logitech cam for visibility and octoprint, been a while since used/upgraded, but was awesome. I have also used PI's for customer systems as a terminal server with a 4-port serial console to USB adapter. I'll join them to whatever wireless I can get there, guest or otherwise, and have it join to my zerotier network to remote-access it ala vpn. I still have a few customers in Cali I use this for on rare occasions it lives at, and friggin awesome for remote serial console access to switch infrastructure when things break, or I break it during maintenance. Good spend of ~80 bucks or so. -mb On Fri, Sep 11, 2020 at 1:23 PM Eric Oyen via PLUG-discuss < plug-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org> wrote: > There is another use for the RaspberryPi that I have found.
