Well, just make sure you're not feeding some beast botnet with "easy sharing features". Just because they update it doesn't mean the fix anything. Might want to nmap it and see what sorts of port services it flaps out to the internet as well, wouldn't be the first time I've found things like these to have telnet open with root/123456 as a pass. It's also 2.4ghz only (why!? I'll pay another $5 for a better 5ghz wifi chips, really), so welcome to slowness on overly-congested/used channels mostly everywhere with it even 5 feet away. This seems far more of a pain in the arse with diminishing returns than putting the usb stick into your laptop or android+otg whatever storage said gadget would present with various security, feature, or performance concerns. Just some thoughts - not disagreeing with you, I've been down this line of thinking, and seems devices haven't improved much from last time I looked a few years ago to just stick to more convention means. -mb On Sat, Nov 17, 2018 at 10:01 PM David Schwartz wrote: > Also found this, a far more interesting and universal use-case: > > https://blog.codinghorror.com/your-own-personal-wifi-storage/ > > -David Schwartz > > > > > On Nov 17, 2018, at 8:27 PM, David Schwartz > wrote: > > > > FWIW, I just got hold of a "SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick” with 64GB of > flash memory on it. > > > > Amazon has them really marked down right now: > > > > https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZCFYF2W > > > > I’d love to find something like this that was hackable — where I could > load up my own software and run it. > > > > Been looking around for anybody who’s hacked them, but no luck yet. > > > > A USB3.0 version would also be really nice, since USB2 transfer rates > are horribly slow for devices with such large capacities. > > > > -David Schwartz > > > > --------------------------------------------------- > PLUG-discuss mailing list - PLUG-discuss@lists.phxlinux.org > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or to change your mail settings: > https://lists.phxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-discuss
