You might consider either repartitioning your current drive to allow for an install in a new partition or installing on a different drive entirely, then you have the ability to compare the two systems to see if 1 - the update is worth the effort (whatever issue you were having before is gone) 2 - you can manage to install the applications without as much trouble since you have the original configs available. Another option might be to clone your 1TB to a new 1TB (non-mirrored, rotator probably), try an upgrade on that NEW 1TB clone (without the mirrored drives available) to see if ‘just’ upgrading in place is successful… Rusty From: PLUG-discuss [mailto:plug-discuss-bounces@lists.phxlinux.org] On Behalf Of Mark Phillips Sent: Friday, September 14, 2018 9:37 AM To: Main PLUG discussion list Subject: Re: InstallFest this Saturday, Sept 15 Todd, Thanks for the information about the InstallFest. I forgot to mention that the system is set up with 2 mirrored 1 TB SSDs. I am not excited about a clean install because I will then have to install and configure all my applications again, and I know not all the important stuff is in /home. Perhaps I should just be content with 14.04. Why? Linux changes too fast 14.04 to 16.04 failed 50% due to massive changes that were unable to be accounted for. 16.04 to 18.04 works 90% backing up home and clean install 100% plus we can test it before hand with live media. we will every thing to test upgrade or clean install so either way we should be able to get you current. I need some help upgrading my System76 Gazelle laptop from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 to 18.04. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with the System 76 support techs, and we could not get the updater to run. I am hoping there will be someone there who can help me! Or, is this a too advanced topic for the InstallFest? Thanks!
