another good product, especially if you have pets, is diatemateous earth. it resembles flour, and pets or people, even babies can eat it without harm. It is deadly for anything with an exoskeleton though, which is most bugs. it acts like tiny razors to them and they die fast. I discovered it a few years ago to combat fleas and I had three dogs so it had to be safe for them. I not only did my inside of house, but the front yard too. almost three years now and we have not had even one flea on any of our dogs, and don't need to use drops or collars.
