libvlc and avcodec.....make sure these are updated to latest, also see if there are alternatives to these codecs for Ubuntu. I once had installed the "minimum" of codecs and ran into issues. The problem was resolved updating to a different codec. Id look into and see what these do, then look for alternative..... Or..... Maybe your PC is slow????? Is it "really" old?
