Thanks to all for your input! I need to get another drive so I can ddresuce this drive. Actually, I will probably just replace the whole machine with something better.....time to upgrade from a 486 to a i7 or some such beast. Also, I was thinking of using dd_rescue so I could copy the drive to another machine across the network as opposed to installing a new drive in the current machine. Any issues with that? BTW, I was able to recover all of my mysql tables using knoppix.
