Ubuntu's universal 64 bit download is labeled blah-blah-AMD-blah

I have an Intel machine.

VirtualBox refuses to install Ubuntu thinking it is tailored to AMD machines.

Although I'd like to stick to what I am used to, are there any other distros suitable for casual desktop use? (Preferably Debian based.)
