Sorry about my last message. I wrote it last night at around 3:30 in the morning. Okay, here is the deal: The computer with Mint on it will not boot from the hard drive. Only from the CD. As such I have Mint running on it. On The Ububntu system (I have two computers going) I installed the 3.1.4 kernel too but it didn't like it either. The screen just goes blank if I run 3.1.4 and it gives me the kernel boot option if I restart it (every other time). I tried synaptic (had to apt-get it) to remove the kernel but it wasn't in the package list. I think that is because it is a newer kernel. Hmmmm..... I changed the boot order in Mint and it now is giving the option of choosing kernels (on every other power down). Now I can boot the laptop too.
